IV CARMELO BERNAOLA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

Introduction

The Aula Magna at the Music Conservatory of Vitoria-Gasteiz will host the fourth CARMELO BERNAOLA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL, a festival characterised by its firm commitment to the music of our times. There will be several programmed concerts featuring prominent performers from the international arena, with proposals that reflect the diversity of the latest in music.

The festival will open with Daniel Kientzy, an international artist who for 30 years has maintained a charismatic relationship with Romanian musical creation, and who during this time has taken the music of this country around the world. On this occasion his proposal is promoZICA, a singular trio of viola, electronics and saxophones.

AXYZ ENSEMBLE from Holland is one of the most novel instrumental groups of current times. Their concerts explore new sounds and rhythm techniques through multidisciplinary projects that incorporate music from around the world. Their project "Rhythmical Journeys" presents a new perspective on rhythm in contemporary music from the non-Western viewpoint of the south of India.

The third concert will feature the ENSEMBLE ESPACIO SINKRO, presenting a new programme especially designed for the festival: "Music and Mathematics". A tribute to composer Francisco Guerrero (1951-1997) and computer engineer Miguel Ángel Guillén (1962-2007), figures of reference in the field of scientific methodology applied to musical composition. The concert will also feature the absolute premiere of a work by Carlos Satué.

Finnish quartet Meta4 is considered one of the most important of the moment. In its short but intense history it has already won prestigious international prizes for chamber music and has performed at the main halls worldwide. The works chosen provide a good demonstration of the music written for string quartets over the last hundred years.

Originating from France and with its first appearance in this country, the festival will be closed by instrumental group 2d'Lyres with a special concert that is a fusion of elements from contemporary music, electro-acoustics, improvisation and electro-jazz.
